Nurse’s Refusal to Obey UC Order to Remove Their Watermelon Badge (Union Nurses for Palestine)

Instagram post here.

Workplaces, universities , hospitals are combating repression and Palestinian racism. Our ability to speak up against genocide speak up not just as humanitarian issue but against the Imperialist US war machine that feeds off of the settler colonial project. Whether we are a HCW or a factory worker – union or not we must be able to use our voices in dissent of this horrific status quo. We will not tolerate genocide ! We will not tolerate the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. We will not tolerate the slaughter of thousands of Palestinians. We will not tolerate the denial of their existence. Today a nurse at UCSF -following the heels of another fired colleague Denise Caramagno – took that stand and has refused to comply with a racist directive that poses to deny the existence of the Palestinian people because their existence made a doctor uncomfortable! The watermelon is symbol of existence of the Palestinian people. It was used because it was against the law to use the Palestinian flag. It was a form of severe repression and denial of their right to exist from the settler colonial entity called Israel. #endtherepression
