END THE WAR ON JOURNALISTS: Today, while an Al Jazeera camera crew was documenting the brutal massacres carried out by the Israeli Occupation Army in Northern Gaza, an “Israeli” sniper shot cameraman Fadi Al-Wahidi in the neck. He fell to the ground live on camera and is now in critical condition. In that moment, a journalist who risked his life to capture the news became the breaking news.
Since the beginning of the assault on Gaza, the Zionist entity has been assassinating journalists on duty. As the massacres escalate in the North including the brutal sieges on Jabalia refugee camp and the Kamal Adwan Hospital, more and more journalists are receiving threatening messages from the killers warning them to stop reporting if they want to live. Meanwhile, in the prestigious newsrooms of the West, where editors spend hours debating semantics and the usage of one neutralizing word over the other, journalists remain silent about the live-streamed murder of their colleagues.
If you are a journalist at a mainstream outlet, the time to act is now. Pressure your workplace to do its job: Condemn the murder of reporters in Palestine. Withhold your labor until your newsroom releases a statement condemning the targeting of Palestinian journalists and pledges to report accurately on the genocide. In your reporting, include the names of the surviving and threatened correspondents to protect them. Make it clear that the world is watching.
There is no “free press” without the Palestinian press. There is no journalism without the voices from the North.
