Subject: 25 Years On: Remembering Our Resistance to US Wars of Terror
Twenty-five years ago, 58 ALAA-UAW 2325 members and 23 members of 1199 at LAS echoed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous opposition to the Vietnam war by speaking out against the bipartisan exploitation of 9/11 as a pretext for imperialist war, Israeli settler-colonialism, racism, Islamophobia, and repression — positions that have been fully adopted by our union in the 2020s.

September 27, 2001: NYCLAW Since 9/11
New York City Labor Against the War emerged at “Ground Zero” as the first antiwar labor body established in the U.S. after 9/11. It has been a vital antiwar pole within labor, and labor pole within the antiwar movement.
February 21, 2002: In Defense of Civil Liberties
As a labor union whose members fight each day for the statutory and constitutional rights of indigent New Yorkers, The Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, UAW Local 2325, is deeply opposed to the Bush administration’s broad assault on precious civil liberties and democratic rights.
April 14, 2003: ALAA Antiwar Vote
For the reasons discussed above, adoption of the proposed antiwar resolution is more critical now than ever. Bush’s wars of empire and colonial occupation have a profoundly destructive impact on our Union, Legal Aid Society funding, our clients, their communities, and the world in which we live. This resolution is also an opportunity to reaffirm ALAA’s historic commitment to social justice; to honest, open, mutually-respectful internal discussion; to principle over opportunism; and to a more effective union.
April 2004: Labor for Palestine
Labor for Palestine (U.S.) was launched in 2004, responding to Palestinian calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel, in order to serve as a framework to mobilize labor support in the U.S. for Palestinian workers’ struggle for justice. It was founded at the Al-Awda Palestine Right to Return Coalition convention in New York City in April 2004 by New York City Labor Against the War and Al-Awda NY, and officially announced from the platform of the Million Worker March in October 2004.

September 29, 2011: 2001-2011: 10th Anniversary of New York City Labor Against the War (NYCLAW)
September 27 marked the 10th anniversary of New York City Labor Against the War (NYCLAW), which emulated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s opposition to the Vietnam War, and was endorsed by hundreds of trade union signers — including 58 ALAA members and 23 members of 1199 at LAS.
