On 30 October, dockworkers in more than 45 ports internationally will be take action against war and genocide.
Eight unions from France, Greece, Cyprus, the Basque Country, Türkiye, Morocco and Italy will refuse to let their ports be used to send weapons to war. They’re inviting port unions everywhere to join them.
They’re also taking action over their own working conditions. Dockworkers are being pushed into longer hours and seven-day weeks, secure jobs are being replaced with subcontracted and insecure work, and automation and AI are being used to cut jobs, all while pay falls further behind the cost of fuel, energy and food.
They’re asking for three things: no weapons or troops sent to war through their ports, no turning ports into military bases, and money spent on wages, safe jobs and pensions instead of weapons.
Save the date and share this post. Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more on how ports work and how you can support the workers.
