Dear Friends, Family, Coworkers, and Supporters,
We are a group of former Google workers who were illegally fired after we protested on April 16, 2024. We demanded that Google:
1. End Project Nimbus, Google and Amazon’s $1.2 billion cloud computing contract with the Israeli military
2. End the harassment, intimidation, bullying, silencing, censorship, and retaliation of our Arab, Palestinian, and Muslim colleagues
3. Address the health and safety crisis among Google workers resulting from Google’s work on Project Nimbus.
After months of Google-enabled genocide in Gaza and the harassment, intimidation, discrimination, and censorship of marginalized Google workers that went unaddressed by Google leadership, we had no choice but to escalate our demands by holding historic coast-to-coast rallies and sit-ins in April 2024. By doing so, we exercised our lawful right to engage in protected concerted activity under the National Labor Relations Act. Within 24 hours, Google responded with unprecedented retaliation and repression, resulting in the illegal and indiscriminate firing of 50 workers, including workers that simply walked past the sit-in.
Since our illegal firing, we have worked with our lawyers to fight our legal case, including filing a complaint through the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), filing charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and filing a lawsuit against Google.
Why We’re Asking for Support Now:
Since April 2024, we have collectively spent over $100,000 on legal fees, and our fight up until this point has largely been funded by ourselves and our immediate personal networks. However, we are up against a behemoth corporation with vast financial resources, and we would appreciate your help in continuing our fight against Google.
By fighting Google’s mass retaliatory firings in court, we aim to use our wins to propel tech worker organizing, safety for marginalized tech workers, and solidarity with Palestine in the labor movement. At a time when workers’ rights are under attack, it’s crucial for us to protect the rights of all workers to speak up, build worker power, and organize in our workplaces.
While we welcome donations from anyone willing to support, we specifically seek donations from those with financial privilege and other tech workers, whose working conditions we hope to improve through this case. We ask that everyone prioritize donations to direct relief efforts for Palestinians who are experiencing a brutal renewal of the genocide, and donations to student activists such as Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk, and others who are facing deportation and repression for their activism.
Our Goals For This Lawsuit:
1. Demonstrate to Google that they cannot continue discriminating against Arab, Palestinian, and Muslim employees and their supporters without repercussions.
2. Pursue (and win) our lawsuits to the fullest extent possible, affirming our right as workers to organize without retaliation.
3. Bring more tech workers into our movement against the tech industry’s complicity in the genocide of Palestinians and abuse of marginalized workers at home.
