🇵🇸 The CalSTRS Divest team applauds UTLA teachers and @educators4justiceinpalestinela for their courageous advocacy for the Palestinian people. We look forward to building state-wide support for our campaign in order to pressure the CalSTRS board of directors and investment officers to immediately sell off stocks in companies that are actively enabling and facilitating the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians.
🇵🇸 CalSTRS serves over 1 million California educators, which means that over 1 million public school teachers are being forced to contribute their earnings to investments in war profiteers like Elbit Systems, Boeing, General Dynamics, Caterpillar and Palantir – companies that are playing an active role in facilitating a livestreamed genocide that has killed over 60,000 civilians, about half being children.
🇵🇸 In October 2024, the CFT passed a resolution calling on CalSTRS to divest from genocide, and we are hoping to see CTA do the same. UTLA’s endorsement of this campaign is invaluable. UTLA’s support could trigger a domino effect amongst other unions. UTLA’s leadership in California has the power to move mountains, and this is the sort of labor power that Palestinians need right now.
🇵🇸Global solidarity amongst trade unions is the key to defending ordinary working class people here in the US and around the world. We applaud UTLA’s steadfastness in fighting for teachers, for students, and for Palestinians.
