Sophia Elena Gurulé, of UAW Local 2325: Building Sectoral Power to Fight for Palestine and Immigrant Rights (UAWD)

When workers come together, when we listen to one another. When we actually engage in real democracy with one another, we have the capacity to change not only our own working conditions, but the working conditions for people world-wide.”

Sophia Elena Gurulé @soapia is a public defender representing incarcerated people facing deportation and a member of UAW Local 2325. At Daily Struggle’s Launch Event, Sophia outlined her Local’s commitment to democracy and internationalism, underlining her Local’s role in pushing the UAW to struggle against the Israeli genocide in Gaza and how they used rank-and-file power to fight the pressure they faced from local power-brokers in New York for their stance. She also highlighted the necessity for organizers to build bridges across Locals and sectors to build a movement which can win power for all workers and oppressed people.

Listen to Sophia and other UAWD leaders talk about why they believe in the need for class struggle and our Daily Struggle publication at link in bio!
