On Thanksgiving and Day 4 of #InternationalFoodWorkersWeek, we’re uplifting the Palestinian General Federal Trade Unions’ ongoing calls for the U.S. labor movement to take real action to stop U.S. support for Israel.
Pro-Palestinian sentiment in our movement is at a high, but historically, U.S. labor (or at least its high-ranking leaders) have supported Israel, lobbying President Truman to recognize it as a state in the 1940s and donating funds from union pensions and treasuries to Israel and the settlements.
True working class values will never align with imperialism, colonialism, and genocide.
Workers in Greece, Italy, India, Belgium and more have blocked shipments to Israel.
Unions in many more countries have called for arms embargos and support for workers refusing to handle Israeli goods. Some have held actions temporarily shutting down factories that produce weapons bound for Israel.
