Sep 8, 2025From the organizers: Trump has declared open season on immigrants, LQBTQ+ folks, activists, and workers. The scale and breadth of his administration’s attacks have left many people feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to fight back. But resistance is possible, and is starting to grow everywhere. Organized workers are uniquely positioned to push back against these attacks. We have the power to bring the system to a halt through collective action. Join us as we hear from a variety of local union activists and discuss strategies for building a fighting resistance. Speakers: Migrant Activist, Will Lambek interpreting, Migrant Justice Matt Gile, Winooski NEA Elizabeth Dunford, VT Labor for Palestine, UVM Staff United Nolan Rampy, AFSCME 1674, Tempest Collective Trump and the billionaires are carrying out class war on workers, the poor, and oppressed. The majority of people in this country oppose all of their attacks. But the Democratic Party establishment has refused to fight, disappointing so many that it is now more unpopular than Trump and the GOP. We cannot rely on them to stop the regime; we have to. We have to organize bigger marches, rallies, and most importantly political strikes to defend our democracy, rights, wages, and benefits. From the Day without an Immigrant in 2006 to illegal strikes that founded most unions in the 1930s and 1960s, the workers movement has led such struggles in the past. So have unions in countries throughout the world from the militant strikes that toppled apartheid in South Africa to the mass actions and strikes that just stopped a far right coup in South Korea. Join the Tempest Collective for a panel that will discuss how unions and workers can organize and deploy our power to save what we have and win what we want.
