This Labor Day, join MN Labor for Palestine in demanding divestment and an end to Minnesota workers’ complicity in genocide!
Yesterday, our members and allies attended Attorney General Keith Ellison’s annual Labor BBQ for two reasons. 1) To show our firm solidarity with the people of Palestine who are suffering and dying daily under bombardment, forced starvation and occupation. 2) To demand divestment of public employee pensions, answers and accountability from Ellison and Governor Tim Walz, who both sit on the State Board of Investment but routinely cancel its scheduled quarterly public-facing meetings. These elected officials of ours have shamefully avoided facing their constituents and have continued to invest Minnesotan public sector workers’ state-managed pensions in weapons manufacturers, Israel bonds and banks, and many other companies making a profit from occupation and genocide.
Our action was a success! We spoke to our union siblings at the event, and turned up the pressure on elected officials. We confronted Walz and Ellison directly, holding them accountable for their failure to act. As union members from MAPE, CWA, MNA, MFT, SEIU and MPEA, we raised our fists in solidarity with our international brothers and sisters of the Palestinian trade unions, amplifying their call to DIVEST our pensions and tax dollars from Israel and from all companies profiting from its U.S.-facilitated war crimes and illegal expansion.
