On the second anniversary of Israel’s latest war on Gaza, K-12 educators across the United States launch a three-day hunger strike; call on US policy makers to protect children in Palestine by ensuring a free flow of food and other humanitarian aid and recognizing all Palestinian rights under international law.
Children, who comprise over 50% of the population of Gaza, are subject to violence from Israeli bombing and sniping resulting in death, injury and orphanhood; repeated forced displacement leading to family separation, lack of adequate shelter, and neglect; inadequate health care leading to chronic and acute disease, disability, and untreated mental health conditions; inability to access education due to destruction of nearly all educational facilities, and death and disability of educators; and, most recently, severe hunger and famine created by the Israeli blockade and denial of sufficient humanitarian assistance.
