BREAKING: on 22 May, 30+ activists shut down the entrance to the 3rd largest port in the US to prevent a shipment of ammunition and weapons components to be loaded aboard the Israel-bound vessel ZIM Asia. The activists also called for the eviction of the Israeli shipping company Zim Integrated Shipping Services (ZIM) and Danish competitor, Maersk—the two primary shipping-logistics companies responsible for transporting U.S.-manufactured weapons components to israel.
Activists chained themselves to vehicles, taking police over 3 hours to clear the scene. 10 people were arrested.
Today’s action at Port Newark-Elizabeth comes one day after a picket was held at the facility, seeking to disrupt a separate ammunition and weapons shipment to Israel by the vessel ZIM Virginia, organized by Port Workers and Communities for Palestine.
