@manatsu.tanaka represents @dancers_for_palestine and Arts Workers at the May Day pre-rally with @nyclaborforpalestine!
Speech text:
We, Dancers for Palestine, are here today, along with our art worker comrades from @theaterworkersforaceasefire and @againstapartheid.art, because
we believe deeply in the importance of organized labor fighting colonialism
and fascism, and that we, as arts workers have a very crucial role in the labor movement.
In the height of fascism by the current administration, in our tax dollars co-opted into the governments’ bloody funding of the genocide, the word “political” is no longer an adjective, it’s not a
decoration on our work, but it becomes a declaration that we, art workers understand our role and labor has an impact in society.
The state of Israel has an explicitly named policy to improve its image in the public eye through a campaign called “Brand Israel”.
Art, performance, dance, music, and culture are all weaponized to change the narrative of Zionism, but our eyes are clear and we can’t be fooled by propaganda art!
We dance for liberation, not colonization!
We heed the call of Palestinian trade unions and build power to disrupt the war machine.
Art workers play an important role in forming culture, and we do not tolerate a culture formed upon being silent about dehumanization, about genocide, about a 77 year long colonial occupation.
