On October 21, 2025, the Joint Council of ALAA adopted this resolution in support of targeted workers at A Better NYLAG, Bronx Defenders Union, and Brooklyn Defender Services Union—including Sophia Gurulé, unjustly terminated former ALAA constitutional officer, whose arbitration hearing is scheduled for November 10, 2025—and called on the the ALAA Executive Board, ALAA members, and all supporters of organized labor to support ALAA workers as they prepare for disciplinary hearings and arbitrations, including by organizing and attending pickets, publicizing petitions in support, and attending open arbitration hearings.
The injuries continue, as community members and union siblings face having SNAP benefits in limbo during the federal government shutdown, General Motors workers face painful layoffs, and our ALAA siblings in CAMBA’s IT unit are being forced into a historic strike to win a first contract—as Bronx Defenders Management targets its own IT workers for unfair termination. This moment—with workers confronting punitive, retaliatory bosses as the federal government shreds the vestiges of the country’s social safety net, instead devoting its resources to a terrifying campaign of mass detention and deportation—is overwhelming. It also demands that, as workers, we recognize the interconnected nature of our struggles and come together. We are all fighting for our lives, and we all need each other more than ever.
Stand in solidarity with your fellow workers by joining the picket line at CAMBA, which is running daily outside of 20 Snyder Avenue, Brooklyn, NY from 12-1:30 PM. And join BxD Union’s picket in support of targeted workers this Friday, November 7, at 1 PM outside 360 East 161st Street!
