Streamed live on May 4, 2025In this episode we’ll talk to a couple of lawyers/organizers about the idea that the courts, the judiciary or “The rule of law” represents a defense against the second Trump administration. We’ll problematize some of the ways that the law or rights are discussed as “neutral” or as a tool to constrain fascism generally or specific policies of the Trump administration. We’ll also talk about ways that Biden and other previous administrations brought us to the legal-political terrain of the Trump administration, and try to make sense of some of the different legal fights, how they’re being covered, and their implications. Nathan is an abolitionist organizer, members of Survived & Punished NY, and an attorney who practices immigration law and represents Cuban state agencies in US court. They’re based in Queens, NYC. Sophia is an abolitionist, anticapitalist, anti-imperialist, feminist lawyer working in migrant justice. As a lawyer, she defends criminalized and incarcerated working-class people facing deportation. She is also a member of UAW Labor for Palestine and Critical Resistance.
