Letter to the Editor – Kelly Fischer

My name is Kelly Fischer, and I’m a union member of the Minneapolis Professional Employees Association. I’m one of many in a large coalition called Minnesota Labor for Palestine, which is composed of local union members working to divest our pension funds from companies directly contributing to war crimes against Palestinian people.
Several members from MN Labor for Palestine have written an op-ed that we would like to share with you, in hopes that Insight News may choose to publish it. This piece could not be more relevant or timely. The attempted eradication of Palestinians in Gaza echoes many of the same themes of suffering and resilience we see in the US government’s kidnapping and detainment of immigrants, the excessive use of military force to harm and intimidate citizens, and ongoing police brutality. This op-ed makes global connections through the lens of the labor movement and solidarity with our fellow humans.
The MN State Board of Investment, which manages public employee pension investments, has a board meeting scheduled for next Wednesday, June 18. Several Labor for Palestine members will be making a public comment. Our hope would be to have the op-ed published sometime next week to echo the public comments at the meeting.
Please contact me by email if you are interested in reviewing the piece. We hope you’ll consider publishing this op-ed, and we thank you for your consideration.
