Elbit Systems is the Israeli military manufacturer that has made our most dystopian nightmares a reality. Appallingly, CalSTRS has so far refused to relinquish its $5 million dollar investment in Elbit Systems, claiming that it would somehow hurt their $370 billion portfolio.
Elbit Systems supplies the Israeli military with a staggering 80% of its weapons and equipment, such as artillery and tank shells, as well as MPR 500 bombs—500 pound bombs that are packed with 26,000 fragments inside each bomb to maximize civilian casualties.
Elbit Systems also provides the Israeli military with 85% of the combat drones. These drones include the Hermes 450–a “fixed wing” drone that looks like a small aircraft and fires missiles. They also supply the IOF with quadcopters—smaller helicopter style drones that have guns and grenade launchers attached.
Beyond weapons, Elbit Systems is also a key cog in the surveillance system used to police and control the movements of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Honing its surveillance tech over years of Israeli occupation of Palestine, Elbit Systems is now a global leader in this authoritarian industry. Indeed, Elbit Systems contracts with the U.S. government to design the watchtowers powered with high tech surveillance that funnel migrants to chokepoints on the U.S./Mexico border—chokepoints that lead to death in the Sonoran desert or capture by the U.S. Border Patrol.
