1021 MEMBERS FOR PALESTINE UAW-4811 STRIKE SOLIDARITY STATEMENT

1021 Members for Palestine are rank-and-file workers of SEIU Local 1021 who serve in the public sector, non-profit, healthcare, and in schools throughout Northern California, and have been calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the occupation of Palestine.

On May 15, members of United Auto Workers 4811, which represents 48,000 academic student employees, postdocs, and researchers in the University of California (UC) system, voted with a supermajority to authorize their Executive Board to call a strike, if circumstances justify.

UC has failed to resolve multiple unfair labor practices against UAW4811 members, such as:

-Unjustly disciplining and retaliating against workers for exercising rights under their contract to free speech, protest, and collective action

-Discriminating against workers engaging in pro-Palestine speech, while favoring anti-Palestine speech

-Endangering UAW 4811 members and students by allowing violent attacks by anti-Palestine agitators and police

UC must resolve these unfair labor practices by negotiating with student protesters in good faith.

1021 Members for Palestine stands with UAW 4811 academic workers in their Strike Authorization Vote because an injury to one is an injury to all, and the unprecedented repression of free speech and peaceful protest happening at UCs and across the country must be defeated. We will support the strike by joining UAW 4811 workers on the picket lines, at rallies, and campus actions.

Worker solidarity from the Golden State to Palestine!
