AFSCME is made up of workers who care deeply about our communities, and we see first hand how divestment from the public sector has brought harm to them. It’s not hard to make the connections to Palestine. Joshua Barnett, member and delegate from Local 375, DC 37, says:
“As public housing workers, we have to stretch every dollar to keep the building livable. But instead of funding affordable housing, billions of tax dollars are used to destroy the housing of civilians trapped in terrifying and oppressive conditions in Gaza. And we have no say in divesting our pension funds from involvement. It’s a human rights issue, and it’s a union issue. It crosses borders. And it has to stop.”
