UAW 4811 SOLIDARITY STATEMENT
May 13, 2024
Today until May 15, members of United Auto Workers 4811 – 48,000 academic student employees, postdocs, and researchers in the University of California – are voting on whether to authorize their Executive Board to call for a strike. Due to their participation in pro-Palestine protests and student encampments, UAW 4811 members are fighting on multiple UC campuses against retaliation and discipline by the UC, as well as violent police repression and arrests which the UC has condoned. UAW 4811 has filed Unfair Labor Practice charges against UCLA, UCI, and UCSD, and the Executive Board would call for a strike if the UC continues to commit serious ULPs.
Teamsters Mobilize stands in solidarity with UAW 4811 members in their organizing for Palestine and their fight against repression by the UC and the state. They have been in the frontlines in organizing against the genocide in Gaza. We encourage a YES VOTE for the strike authorization and our members located near UC campuses WILL be on the picket lines in support if a strike is called!
