The ongoing genocide of Palestinians has led to over 100,000 people killed, injured, or missing under the rubble. As CWA members, we are calling on CWA to withdraw its endorsement of President Biden and withhold all endorsements from candidates that do not support an immediate, permanent ceasefire. Furthermore, we will not participate in any union-sponsored Get Out the Vote activities for President Biden or any other candidate who supports the ongoing genocide of Palestinians unless they meet the demands below.

Dear CWA Executive Board,
We are bearing witness to the genocide of the Palestinian people, and it is our elected officials supplying Israel with the funding and weapons necessary to continue the slaughter. As members of Communications Workers of America (CWA), one of the largest labor unions in the country, we have joined together to hold our elected leaders accountable and fight for humanity.
For the past four months, Israel has horrifically escalated its ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, violating international law, killing at least 28,473 Palestinians, injuring 68,146 others, and destroying 80% of the infrastructure in Gaza. President Biden and his administration have been complicit, blocking numerous UN ceasefire measures, bypassing Congress to increase weapons sales to Israel, and suspending funding for UNRWA the day after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to prevent “acts of genocide” and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Additionally, President Biden has expressed support for a new bill that would enact Trump-era immigration restrictions in exchange for a $14 billion military aid package for Israel. These actions go against everything the labor movement and our union stands for.
Last month the CWA Executive Board released a statement in support of a ceasefire. While we are disappointed in the statement’s Zionist rhetoric and hedging in the face of genocide, we recognize that it is the result of rank-and-file pressure and are proud to be members of a union standing up for justice. However, the release of this statement without any action on part of our union renders it meaningless.
Therefore, we as CWA members call on CWA National to withdraw its endorsement of President Biden until he meets the conditions outlined below. Furthermore, we pledge not to participate in any union-sponsored Get Out the Vote actions for President Biden or any other candidate who supports the ongoing genocide of Palestinians until they meet the following demands:
Call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the genocide of Palestinians, and the provision of humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
Stop providing military funding and intelligence to Israel and end the U.S. siege of the Middle East.
Commit to ensuring Israel’s compliance with international law and universal principles of human rights, including ending the occupation, dismantling the illegal apartheid wall, guaranteeing equal rights for Palestinians, releasing prisoners (both Palestinians and Israelis), and recognizing the right of return for Palestinian refugees.
Commit to fair due process for asylum-seekers and refugees, including demilitarizing the border, stopping border wall construction, closing open-air detention centers, expanding shelters, granting work permits, and establishing legal pathways to citizenship (e.g., DACA).
In the face of the worst humanitarian crisis in modern times, it is our obligation as union members and workers to fight for the livelihood and freedom of the Palestinian people. Together, we can hold our elected officials accountable, and we can build a labor movement that truly fights for justice everywhere. We hope you will join us.
