DON’T MOVE ZIM: ‘Port Workers & Communities for  Palestine’ Demand Pledge to Block Weapons Shipments & Call for End to Genocide

Today Port Workers and Communities for Palestine picketed the Maher Terminal at the Port of Elizabeth, NJ to protest the arrival of the ZIM Virginia and ask the longshore workers working that ship not to load the ammunitions cargo which had been delivered to the Terminal for shipment to “israel” to support the zionist entity’s genocidal campaign on Gaza.

We were distributing flyers to both the longshore workers heading into the Maher Terminal and the port truckers driving by on Corbin St, letting them know why we were there and asking them to #DontMoveZIM. A couple dozen Port Authority “Counter-Terrorism” squad pulled up 45 minutes after we began picketing to harass us for flyering.

The ZIM Virginia  arrived this morning, scheduled to transport the munitions  tomorrow to the Port of Ashdod. The ammunition, manufactured by Hornady in Nebraska, is to be delivered to Israel Military Industries, acquired by the zionist entity’s largest weapons manufacturer, Elbit Systems. These shipments are only a handful of thousands of weapons, weapons components, armored and tactical vehicles, etc. that have already been transported by ZIM and Maersk from the Port of Elizabeth.

ZIM is the 10th largest shipping  company in the world and the 5th largest company in Israel, and is critical to keeping the Israeli economy afloat. ZIM not only ships  military cargo directly responsible for the killing of Palestinians, but  also ferries goods of ancillary, use including food for the IOF and components for surveillance technology.

Today we called on longshore workers of the  International Longshoremen’s Association to #DontMoveZIM—not handle “israeli” cargo. Arms embargo now!
