A PEOPLE’S ARMS EMBARGO: FEDERATION OF PALESTINIAN TRADE UNIONS CALL FOR PORT WORKERS AROUND THE WORLD TO TARGET LOGISTICS COMPANIES MAERSK AND ZIM.
The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), a national trade union center in Occupied Palestine with over 290,000 members, released a statement today articulating 6 main points in light of the approaching 1 year anniversary of the genocide on Gaza. Among the 6 points is an explicit call for port workers worldwide to “refuse to deal with military shipments to Israel through all military ships and logistics companies, especially Maersk and ZIM.”
As the Mask Off Maersk campaign begins to gain international traction, the PYM acknowledges the significance of PGFTU’s statement, and salutes PGFTU’s recognition of the importance of a people’s arms embargo, enforced in part through the power of organized labor. In calling on unions worldwide to heed the boycott and refusal to engage with Maersk, the PGFTU has taken a clear stance in support of mass-coordinated, organized efforts to stop the supply chain of genocide in its tracks. It now becomes the task of union members everywhere to heed their call.
Organized labor clogs the arteries of imperialism. The hour has come for workers everywhere to put this campaign in motion and — from wherever we are — to stop genocide in its tracks. Join the Mask Off Maersk campaign today! SIGN THE PETITION: MASKOFFMAERSK.COM
