About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Meet other workers building solidarity with Palestine in their unions while raising money to help Ismail and his family of 6 survive genocide in Gaza.

Come hungry and ready to support Zyara, a beloved Palestinian restaurant in Queens.

Food, raffle tickets, and art for purchase! Everyone is welcome, we just ask that you purchase food if you come so that we can support Zyara!

NOTE: When you click “get tickets” you will be able to pay what you want (including a free ticket if you can’t afford to both eat and buy a ticket) and buy tickets from afar to support Ismail, if you cannot attend the event in person. Please only purchase a general admission ticket if you’re sure you can attend because we want to give Zyara a close to accurate headcount. If you’re unsure, you can buy a “from afar” ticket and we will honor it at the door!

A message from Ismail (his Go Fund Me is also linked here):

Hello, world. My name is Ismail, and I am 25 years old. I am from the northern Gaza Strip, and I have a family of 5 members: My wife, our precious 3 year old boy, Salim, my sister, my brother, and my mother.

Everything was beautiful before the war started, and since October 7 we have been living a very difficult life due to bombing, hunger and destruction. We were displaced to the south, after our house was demolished, my work was destroyed, and I lost my friends, my dreams, and everything.

We currently live in an UNRWA school. We suffer from overcrowding of displaced people and a lack of food and potable water. I need to give my child milk, healthy food and detergents. My child misses all of this because of the war. I was hit by a bullet in my shoulder, and my brother was shot in the hand when we were trying to escape from the house after the occupation bombed it.

Life here has become unlivable and we may leave this life at any moment due to genocide and the spread of diseases and epidemics. Not just me but my child, my brother, my beloved wife and mother. Your donation is the only hope to save our lives. We must leave Gaza as quickly as possible.

Before the war, I used to work in the clothing trade and now I have no source of income. We used to go out with our friends and meet with neighbors and relatives, but because of the war some died and some traveled and the rest are struggling to survive.

We just want to get out of here as soon as possible before it is too late because the situation is getting worse every day and we could leave at any moment. Just the other day, I barely survived another massacre that killed 10 people.

All of your support means the world to me and my family and will help us live and help my child to grow up. Please find it in your hearts to help us.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Ismail and how is he connected to Labor or Palestine?

Ismail is a 25-year-old Palestinian man who has been displaced by the Israeli occupation, along with his family, 7 times since October. He has been in close contact with a core Labor for Palestine organizer and is very well verified. His story is above. He is very grateful for your help!

Can I come if I’m not in a union/ involved in labor solidarity with Palestine?

Absolutely! Anyone who supports the Palestinian cause and who wants to help this family survive genocide is more than welcome. This will be a warm, casual gathering – if you think Palestine should be free from the river to the sea you will fit right in. We’d also love to talk to non-union workers!
